Copal is indigenous to Mexico tracing back to the Mayan civilization. Copal incense is derived from the copal tree or "papelillo" tree. The sap is extracted from the trunk then formed into clumps. We work with Mauricio Martinez who takes the copal resin and transforms it into a mixture that later is used to hand roll each incense stick.
"Copal is still used by a number of indigenous peoples of Mexico and Central America as an incense and during sweat lodge ceremonies. It's magical qualities aid with the process of opening to the soul, to intuition and inspiration, it is thought to be food for the ancestors, a way of saying thank you"
